The Blue Carbon Challenge

Another Carbon Cycle Nurtured by the Ocean

What Is Blue Carbon?

Blue carbon refers to the carbon absorbed and stored by marine ecosystems such as seagrass beds and seaweed forests. Just like forests on land, healthy and thriving oceans play an important role in protecting our planet’s environment. We aim to highlight the power of the ocean and help create a healthier environment that can be passed on to future generations.

Why Is Blue Carbon Important?

Blue Carbon is considered essential for achieving carbon neutrality because it can effectively capture and sequester carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the atmosphere, a primary cause of climate change.

    Long-Term Carbon Storage

The absorbed carbon is stored for long periods—in some cases, for thousands of years—in seabed sediments and other locations, thereby contributing significantly to climate change mitigation.

    Marine Environmental Conservation

Seagrass beds and tidal flats—which nurture Blue Carbon—play a vital role not only in absorbing CO₂ but also in purifying water quality, serving as spawning and nursery grounds for marine life, and protecting biodiversity.

Reviving the Rich Marine Forests and Weaving the Future of the Earth and the Region

The WSP Group’s Blue Carbon Initiative

We are addressing the challenge of Blue Carbon through seagrass bed restoration. Restoring seagrass beds not only helps reduce CO₂ emissions but also restores vital habitats that support a wide range of marine life. By protecting marine biodiversity and supporting healthy fishery resources, we aim to create a sustainable cycle that enhances coastal environments and revitalizes local fisheries and ocean-based industries.

Returning gratitude and beauty to the ocean,
the source of beauty.

For more than 30 years, we have pursued the beauty of pearls. To us, the ocean that nurtures pearls is where everything begins and one of our most precious assets.

That is why our commitment goes beyond simply benefiting from the gifts of the ocean. We are dedicated to protecting and restoring a beautiful ocean for future generations.

Protecting the ocean and preserving its beauty for generations to come. Advancing the “Circulation of Beauty” throughout the WSP Group.
This is the foundation of everything we do and the unwavering philosophy that guides the WSP Group.
